How to move a resident up in bed

Moving a resident up in bed requires two people. 1. Tell the resident what you're going to do. 2. Put the bed in a flat position and raise the bed to a comfortable height for you and your co-worker. 3. You and your co-worker stand on opposite sides of the bed, near the top or head of the bed. 4. If the resident is able, ask them to cross their arms over their chest and tuck their chin down. If unable to follow instructions, support the resident's neck with one of your hands. 5. Using the draw sheet, roll the edge toward to resident to get a good grip. 6. On the count of three, lift the draw sheet and pull the resident to the top of the bed. 7. Position the resident for comfort, raising the head of the bed as needed. 8. Lower the bed.
