Learn the answer to this CNA question.

What should the CNA/Nurse Aide do if a patient experiences a cardiac arrest?

1. If a patient is having a cardiac arrest (no evidence of pulse or breathing) the CNA/Nurse Aide should immediately call for help, use the emergency call light or button, and shout "Code Blue" or other signal. 2. Prepare for CPR: lower the patient's bed, loosen clothing, and place a backboard under the patient, if it is available. 3. Depending on protocol, start CPR if there is no nurse available. Compression-only CPR is 100 compressions per minute. 4. When the nurse or a team arrives, the CNA/Nurse Aide may gather equipment and support resuscitation efforts.
