What is Transmission-Based Precautions?

Infection control practices, used with Standard Precautions, to care for clients who are infected or suspected of being infected. They include a single room with an isolation sign, disposable personal items such as dishes, dedicated equipment such blood pressure cuffs, and limited transport of the resident. Staff and visitors wear protective equipment such as masks, gowns, and gloves, with proper disposal after use.
