How to orient a new resident to the facility

1. Give a complete orientation to the resident's room. This includes bed controls, call light, bathroom, storage, lighting, and window curtains or shades. 2. If the resident and/or family is able, offer a brief tour of the unit: dining area, snack refrigerator and cabinets, activity room, common areas, nursing station, etc. 3. Provide information about visiting hours, phone calls, and important policies, such as smoking, etc.
