Reviewed by Winona Suzanne Ball, Nursing Adviser, RN | MHS, Governors State University, IL, Full member of the American Nurses Association.

Your decision to become a Certified Nursing Assistant is a great one! The demand for CNAs is growing faster than most other jobs. You are on your way to an exciting and rewarding career! Your classroom lectures and clinical classes provide the knowledge and skills you need to be successful. The CNA is an important health care professional. Doctors and nurses rely on your observations and reports in order to provide the best possible care. Studying for your CNA Examination takes a lot of time. Each state can have different requirements for the actual certification process, including how many questions are on the written portion of the exam. Basic Nursing Skills will have more questions than any other category. You can expect about 22 questions on an exam with 70 questions. The practice questions here are similar to those you’ll find when you sit for your CNA examination. Some of the topics covered by these Basic Nursing Skills practice questions include:
  • Proper isolation techniques
  • Common disorders a CNA may encounter
  • Caring for an incontinent patient
  • Preventing pressure sores
  • Diabetes complications
  • Vital signs
Read each question carefully! There are four possible choices for the answer. Some test candidates like to eliminate one or two of the wrong choices. Others like to think about all the choices before deciding. If you are uncertain, click on the Hint button below the fourth option to get a one-sentence clue. If you select an incorrect answer, you will find out immediately. The explanation for the correct answer will show, so you can read it and find out more. When you’re ready, you can go to the next questions. Take notes if you want, to reinforce your learning.
